Yeon Yeoin creates strange yet beautiful worlds through a wide range of techniques, spanning traditional analog media such as pen and ink and oil painting to moving-image works. The artist defines her practice as “realistic fantasy,” developing her work around the events encountered while facing the world as an active subject and the multilayered emotions that arise from those experiences. Using traces of memory as a medium, she explores the human condition at the boundary between reality and fantasy, unfolding the ambiguity and sense of novelty discovered there into an original narrative.

The primary motifs of her work originate from visual and emotional experiences she repeatedly encountered in private spaces during childhood—such as images from picture books, stuffed animals, and habitual acts of imagination. These elements function as visual signifiers that shape the inner structure of the artist, evolving into images that are recomposed and systematically constructed within her work.​ The artist describes her painting practice as akin to repetitive labor. What began as drawing to record and regulate emotions has become a ritualistic time of repetition, much like keeping a diary. Painting is no longer merely the outcome of creation; it is a performative act that translates fragments of emotion and imagination into a visual language, and a process of healing.
